Development of Economic Thought
Fa11 2013 Class Project Subjects and Sources Rogers
The Term Paper will consist of a critical review of either (1) the work of a noted economic thinker who is not extensively covered by the course or (2) some aspect of a noted economic thinker who is covered. The former can be a thinker or group of thinkers living in any time period. The writing of the paper involves three tasks: finding a subject, collecting (and reading) the necessary sources, and composing the final paper. The project is worth 24 per cent of the course grade.

You must submit the subject for my approval no later than the week of October 7. By October 21, you will have a list of sources (typed). I will be available to discuss subjects and sources, if you come to me before that date. The First Draft is due on November 4. With a first draft, I can help you make the paper better. THE FINAL DRAFT IS DUE on December 2. Each two-day delay in passing in either draft will result in a drop in one half of a letter grade.

If the student does an oral report on the paper, it should cover certain parts of the paper. Essentially, the student will do the following: (1) Describe the writer’s background, (2) Explain the ideas and theories of the economic theorist or parts of the thinker’s ideas to be covered by the paper, and (2) Explain the impact of the economic theorists of the past on the economic, political, and social milieu of the modern world.
